Yellow-rumped Warbler

Yellow-rumped warblers sure are appropriately named.

A flock of these guys was feeding around & this guy perched at eye level and wasn't moving (I don't think he felt too good). I switched the focusing switch on my lens to allow it to focus as close as possible & started my stalk. I ended up getting within minimal focusing distance, and got a few shots.

When I came back with a tripod so I could use slower shutter speeds & get more depth of field, he seemed a bit perkier & headed for cover.

Nikon D70, Nikkor 400 mm, f/2.8, 1/320th second, ISO 200, handheld, full frame.

You just had him hypnotized by your ability to move so stealthily RIP. Glad he cooperated and gave you this fine shot. Nicely done.

I don't know Rip, but the 2.8 looks pretty good to me.
I can't tell you how many times last week I tried to sneak
up on them with my 200, only to get almost there.
